BRIDGES

in mission viejo, ca

Is having a big, unattractive gap in your mouth from missing teeth keeping you from greeting people with a nice smile? A full set of functional teeth is crucial to your dental and oral health, speech and appearance. If you’re missing one or more teeth, chewing becomes more difficult, and you’re more susceptible to gum disease, speech disorders and a misshapen face.

A bridge replaces missing teeth with natural-looking, artificial teeth. The types of bridges are:

  • Fixed and removable bridges. These attach artificial teeth to the adjoining healthy teeth with crowns.
  • Implant bridge. This attaches artificial teeth under the gum tissue or directly to the jaw.

Rancho Dental Studio can help you determine the best bridge option for your mouth to improve your dental health and restore your happy smile.

What Is the Procedure?

You will likely need two to three visits to our office to get your new veneers. We will start with a consultation. Our cosmetic dentist will discuss your desired results and will determine if dental veneers are right for you.

The procedure itself does not require the use of local anesthesia, but it is available to you if needed. We will begin by cleaning your teeth and determining the correct shade for your veneer. We will remove a wafer-thin layer of your tooth enamel to prepare it for your restoration. We will take an impression of your teeth and will send it to our dental laboratory to fabricate the final product. We will place a temporary veneer until your permanent ones are ready.

During the following appointment, we will remove the temporary veneer and clean your teeth before cementing your new dental veneers in place. We will likely use a curing light to attach your restoration to your tooth structure. We will remove any excess material and polish your dental veneer. You will be amazed at the instantaneous transformation of your smile!

Caring For Your New Veneers

A few precautions will ensure that your veneers last for years to come. Make sure not to bite your nails or chew on any hard non-food items such as pens to prevent damaging your new restorations. Refrain from using your teeth as tools, bottle openers, or for opening packages. Avoid biting down on hard foods such as candy, just as you would for your natural teeth.

Grinding your teeth can damage your new veneers. If you suffer from this condition, you can end up harming your new restorations, along with your natural teeth and jaw joints. A custom-fitted dental mouthguard can protect your veneers from damage.

Veneers can collect plaque and tartar buildup the same way your natural teeth do, so it is essential that you keep up with proper dental hygiene. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and be sure to keep up with your routine dental exam and cleaning appointments twice a year. Only a dental hygienist can remove plaque and tartar from your teeth, which will likely build up over time. Keeping your teeth clean and healthy will prevent potential problems such as gingivitis and cavities from developing.
